Fluid Compensation History – A revolutionary change in ESS | PeopleSoft


Fluid Compensation history allows managers to use the compensation history transaction to review or verify employees’ compensation history. The new delivered fluid page for compensation history allows managers and employees to filter information as well as view the grid information in frequencies besides annual.


The fluid page contains the below features:

It provides access to a chart that displays compensation data of the employee in a graphical format by compensation source and time.

A grid that displays the entire list of compensation changes pertaining to employees Job, which include base salary, variable pay and stock option type changes.


Setting up the Compensation history page:

To setup Compensation history page administrator:

Navigate: Set Up HCM > Product Related > Compensation > Compensation History > Self Service > Define Compensation History

The Display Components of Pay and Include Stock Administration awards enables to display the components of pay history and stock administration awards if any when the compensation pay of an employee is viewed as self-service.

Include Variable Compensation awards – If enabled displays the information in self-service based on award status.


View Compensation History – Select Employee Page

The Select Employee Page is used to select a direct or indirect report to view the employee’s compensation history.

Navigate: Manager Self-Service > Compensation and Stock > View Compensation History

To check the compensation history of an employee, click on the concerned person’s row. If you wish to search for a specific direct or indirect report, expand the Search Options section and enter his or her name, title, or email address, then click Search.

Use the Sort button to sort employees by column headings.


View Compensation history page – Fluid Manager View

This page helps to review employees’ compensation history as manager.

Navigate: Select an employee from View Compensation history –>Select employee page.

User can select Different Employee from his direct reports using the link on header to view his/her compensation history.

User can change the frequency and currency in which the compensation details are displayed.

Salary Frequency: If no default frequencies are found for the company’s country, these values (Annual, Monthly, Daily, and Hourly) are not available for selection.

View In: This option is used to display compensation amounts either in the preferred currency of the logged-on user (as specified on the General Profile Information page), or the currency in which the amounts were paid. By default, the preferred currency is used.


Data displayed on the page can be filtered by

  • Source
  • Type
  • Job Title
  • Time period


This bar chart displays the compensation history of the selected employee based on specified display and filter options. The chart displays one data point per year.

If no filter option is defined and the chart is set to display compensation history of all sources, each source value is displayed color-coded in a stacked bar for its year.

When the chart is set to display salary information along with any other source, the salary frequency used in the chart is always Annual, regardless of the frequency currently selected in the display option. This is to ensure that salary amounts, and other source amounts are being shown consistently in the same time units.


Compensation History

This grid lists the employee’s compensation awards information (one row for each distinct amount) that matches the award status and components of pay setup on the Define Compensation History Page and is filtered by the values selected in the Filter Options section.

Award amounts are calculated and shown in the frequency (for salary amounts only) and currency that are specified in the Display Options section.

Navigate: Select Employee Page-> Select a particular year or Data change row

Salary Change Amount: Displays the change of salary amount.

Salary Change Percent: Displays the change of salary amount in percentage.

Source: Displays the source of awards information, which can be base salary, variable cash, variable non-cash, and stock option.


Compensation History Page (Fluid Employee View)

Navigate: Self Service -> Payroll and Compensation -> Compensation History

Job: Select a job to view its compensation history. This field appears if the employee being viewed has multiple jobs. By default, the primary job is displayed. If there are multiple or no primary jobs defined, the one with the lowest current active job record number is shown.


View In: By default, the system displays compensation history amounts in the issued currency. Overall, this feature introduced in PUM 28 makes managers view their reports’ compensation and employees view their compensations in a much more efficient way.
